MITRA - This critically acclaimed solo Bharata Natyam dance-story inspired by a musical discourse on friendship by Swami Tejomayananda is centered on the core theme of amity, friendship & the divinity of life in all spheres of the world. Acclaimed by the press in India as 'creative and original' and 'mind boggling presentation' MITRA seamlessly weaves together multilingual poetry in 5 Indian languages set to original music by Rajkumar Bharathi.  Through a depiction of a moving episode from Srimad Bhagavatam (3000 BCE), the dancer invites the audience to ponder with wonder - 'when God is a friend what is not possible'! MITRA is presented by Ramaa in the Ekaharya style in which the unfolding of the story happens through a solo dancer from whom multiple characters, moods, & conversations emerge.

Ramaa Bharadvaj is a Lester Horton Award winning dancer & choreographer.   She had her training from Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai and Kamala (Bharatanatyam) and Vempati Chinna Satyam (Kuchipudi). Ramaa lived in the United States for 31 years and was the founder-director of Angahara Dance Ensemble, an award winning Indian dance  company.  Her works have been nationally telecast in the US by PBS.  She was the first Indian dancer in over 45 years to be featured on the cover of the prestigious Dance Magazine and was honored with the Directors Award from California Arts Council for her contributions to the Arts in the State of California.  She was selected as one of 21 exceptional South Asian women living in the US, whose lives and stories were presented in the book ‘Spices in the Melting Pot’ released in 2005.  She served on the dance faculty of Pomona College and Orange Coast College and was visiting professor of dance at several Universities in the US.  Ramaa’s ‘Panchatantra - Animal Fables of India’ has received international acclaim for its humor and originality. In 2009 Ramaa moved back to India and at the invitation of Swami Tejomayananda currently serves as the director of dance at Chinmaya Naada Bindu, Gurukul for Indian Performing Arts in Kolwan, Pune Dt.
