ForSE 2012: Conference For Social Entrepreneurs

The Sixth Annual ForSE 2012: Forum for Social Entrepreneurs, co-hosted by the TIE Boston Social Entrepreneurs Group together with MIT's Society for Asian Scientists and Engineers will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 9 am to 5.45 pm at MIT’s Stata Center. This promises to be a great conference if you are interested in social entrepreneurship, plan to start a social enterprise or already are running one. You get an opportunity to meet with over 200 attendees that share your passion and interest, listen to several topical panels with perspectives from from the trenches shared by emerging entrepreneurs, and hear a fabulous line up of keynote speakers. 
 
This year the set of keynotes and panels this year includes:
  • Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip, 2008 Magsaysay award winner and founder of the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI) in the Philippines which has provided microfinance support to over 1.7 million poor families
  • Prof. Kamaljit Bawa, awarded the Gunnerus Sustainability Award by the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters for his work on sustainability and global diversity and founder, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE)
  • Prof. Amos Winter principal inventor of the Leveraged Freedom Chair (LFC), an all-terrain wheelchair designed for developing countries that was a winner of a 2010 R&D 100 award and was named one of the Wall Street Journal’s top innovations in 2011. He won the 100k Mass Challenge prize yesterday.

The forum features the popular Pitch contest where the top applicants from around the Greater Boston area will pitch their ideas to a celebrity judging panel to win over $2000 in prizes.
