The drama starts with three souls caught in a strange world after their tragic deaths. For successful builder Kunwar M P Singh Rathod (Shakti Kapoor), an encounter specialist Babu (Navin Bawa), housewife Kanchan (Padmini Kolhapuri), life goes from unlucky to unbearable even after death when they are trying to find out the reason of their strange togetherness.

‘Aasmaan se gire, Khajur pe atke’-a Hindi comedy play produced by ‘Sur Entertainment’ came to Rhode Island on September 22nd at Park Theatre in Cranston. The Mumbai based production crew Satyajit Gazmer, Govind, Vijay Pandey were able to create magic with simple stage setup, costume and makeup and extraordinary sound and light effects.  It is a complex drama, a mad comedy and a glorious tangle of half truths and double lies, of staged pasts. There is also an embedded story of touching love.

Some of the interesting sarcasm that caught my attention is----”Poilce walon ke charan aachran se jyaada saaf hote hain”; “Paida hone ke liye do log chahiye aur marne ke liye chhar logon ki zaroorat hoti hai”; “Dilli mein car kya sarkar bhi bina driver ke chalti hai”.

The three characters were well played by Padmini Kolhapuri, Shakti Kapoor and Navin Bawa, who also wrote and directed the play. The story is narrated in Alka Yagnik’s voice. Comedy, Dialogues, sarcasm, stage design, acting were enjoyable inspite of the story in the end transitioning from comedy to commercial masala (as watched many times in Bollywood movies), when one of the ghosts revealed that she was a Bar girl. Rathod and Babu also revealed their true identities after Kanchan.

Some bollywood music and dances are part of this play. Padmini  and Shakti were able to reflect charisma through their acting and that is expected from them too. The delightful part was watching them dance on ‘Yeh Galiyan ye chaubaara..’,’kadmon mein aaj’, ‘tum kya jaano mohabbat kya hai’ and many other songs. Shakti Kapoor acted his signature steps and dialogues throughout the play.

Miss India and Miss India Teen-2012 for the states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire was announced on stage and excitement was clearly seen in applause. Apna Punjab -Punjabi Indian cuisine served delicious dinner during the program. The restaurant is newly opened in Rehoboth Massachusetts and serves Southern MA and Rhode Island area.
