MIT India Conference to spotlight trends in entrepreneurship, governance and information technology in one of the world’s fastest growing economies

How best can overseas professionals connect with the Indian mindset?

What business models are contributing to the success of entrepreneurial ventures in India? What trends are shaping India’s information technology sector? And how best can professionals connect with the mindset behind one of the world’s fastest growing economies?

These questions and more will be addressed at the Second Annual MIT India Conference on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 8am-7pm. The conference, which will be held at the campus’ world-renowned Media Lab, is a joint initiative of the MIT Schools of Management, Science, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Architecture and Planning.

This year’s slated keynote speakers are:

•    Hon. Nadir Godrej, Managing Director of Godrej Industries & Chairman, Godrej Agrovet
•    Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Spiritual Leader and Founder of the Isha Foundation
•    Hon. Akash Paul, Director, Caparo Group
•    Other honorary guests include
-    Kaushik Basu, Chief Economist, World Bank and
-    Supriya Sule, Member of Indian Parliament
    
Panel discussions will include:

Entrepreneurship - An exploration of the current explosion of entrepreneurial ventures in India and their impact on the Indian society. What are the challenges…and what is working best?

Governance - Spotlighting case studies from non-profit organizations dealing with corruption within the government agencies that they interact with. What works and what doesn’t?

Connecting with India Culturally - How is Indian culture impacting the country’s business environment? How best can overseas professionals connect with the Indian mindset?

Information Technology - A look at the challenges facing the software industry along with new innovations in its business model and ecosystem

Role of Diaspora: Advancing Indo-US Economic Ties - How does the Indian diaspora affect and influence the diplomatic, economic and cultural exchange of ideas between the US and India?

As a part of the broader MIT India Initiative, this conference aims to celebrate the existing partnerships between MIT and India, as well as discuss future collaborations between the two that could help accelerate innovation into the future.
