We all know that feeling. Stepping up to a mic, speaking to a crowd of people, and afraid you might mess up. These are the Symptoms of the Stomach Jitters and fear of speaking in public. There is only one way to get rid of them, which is to fight them head on.

On April 22nd, 2012 the Young Voices Gavel Club had its formal inauguration day for being accepted as a chapter of the ToastMasters International. On this day all of the Young Voices Gavel Club members prepared a speech to present to a large audience.

The objective of the Inauguration day was to show what the members had been learning over the 3 months in the club. Thus, each member in their speech had to portray a good sense on how to use body language and how to make an effective, yet interesting speech.

There was a great diversity of topics at the event keeping it interesting, there were topics ranging from My bucket list to Wearable Computing and what it holds for the future to why public speaking is important. Each one was crafted skillfully and with the appropriate hand gestures led to a spectacular speech!

Dr. Darshan Thakkar was invited as a Chief Guest to the event and gave a speech on how public speaking is important and essential to everyday life. He then went through examples and asked members in the audience to give impromptu speeches at random! There were also 2 inspiring speeches by special guest speakers Mohan Samlal and Prof. Seeta Ramulu.

Towards, the end of the event, the Young Voices Gavel Club read out it’s declaration and the event came to end with refreshments.
