In Conversation With B.K. Brij Mohan

Brother Brij Mohan is Additional Secretary-General of the Brahma Kumaris, Mt. Abu, Secretary of Brahma Kumaris Educational Society, and Secretary of Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation and Editor of Brahma Kumaris monthly magazine 'Purity.'

Brother Brij Mohan has been associated with Brahma Kumaris for over 55 years and is an outstanding lecturer on meditation and spirituality. He is gifted with clarity in thoughts and conducts lectures, with humor, honesty and insight and is Charterted Accountant by profession.

“I had a rather defiant entry into spirituality. My father was attracted to the Brahma Kumaris and in 1953 he took me to a center. I was extremely argumentative and finally since people really respected my father, one of the brothers asked me give him just five minutes so he could teach me meditation.  Amazingly in that five minutes I could feel my body fill with light and since then I have been slowly progressing along this path.”

Do the Brahma Kumaris require you to choose between a material and a spiritual path? “Not at all. We are guided to know our inner self and thus gain happiness.   In the Hindu tradition Dieties in the temple are beautifully adorned. We offer them delicious foods.  Like the Dieties, we should live in the world and enjoy it but should not be attached to it”

“The Atma is pure.  In the Satyuga, at the beginning of time the souls were pure. But as time past lust, anger, attachment, greed and ego caused impurities to get attached to the soul. These impurities carry from birth to birth and are the cause of pain and suffering. The Rajayoga meditation technique allows you to cleanse the soul.”

Why do Rajayogi’s , who have purified themselves engage in helping cleanse other souls?  "One cannot seek happiness in isolation. The joy of sharing and helping others is the greatest pleasure of all. When the whole world is pure the Golden Age will be ushered.”

Is the Atma different from the Paramatma? "We believe in the Atma, the soul that is the intrinsic to life.  We believe that the human soul appears only in the human form. Paramatma is God who resides in Nirvana, the land beyond sound -we visualize Paramatma as Jyothirlinga or the incarnation of Lord Shiva as light."

What advice does he for our readers? "Purify your soul. Free it from the lust, anger, greed ego and attachment. Live a soul conscious life rather than a body conscious life. You will achieve happiness and peace"

Watching the radiant glow on the face of Rajayogis like Brij Mohan it is clear that these individuals have evolved to a higher plane of spirituality.  Coming in contact with such individuals is a transformative experience.
