‘Chaitra Navratri’ Celebrations
New England Shirdi Sai Temple, Chelmsford, MA
Nine-Day Long Festival
March 23-31, 2012

The most celebrated time of the year in Shirdi is Ramnavami which was started with Baba’s blessings in 1911. The NESSP Shirdi Sai Temple in Chelmsford MA has maintained the tradition in New England area for several years. This year Chaitra Navratri and Ram Navami is celebrated as a Nine- Day long festival. First day of Chaitra Shukla paksha is celebrated as first day of the year (as in Hindu calendar). The Kalash sthapna was done on this auspicious day and the traditional pooja was done as during Ugaadi /Gudi Padwa in India. In many parts of India, the nine-day period also is the time of cleansing and fasting and to worship ‘Maa Durga” and the temple festivities also included asthami Bhandara.

NESSP(New England Shirdi Sai Parivaar) invited devotees and their families participation in the Akhand Ramayan path, Sri Sai Sadcharitra parayan (reading), Samuhik Sita Ram Kalayanam, Sri Sai Palkhi, Chants and Bhajans and Grand bhandara - all during nine Day Festivities. The Samuhik Reading of Holy books was done by volunteers taking turns for reading chapters. The Temple Palkhi was done at the temple premises with pomp and show and all enjoyed by all age groups kids, adults, seniors. The visitors are not only from the state of Massachusetts and New Hampshire but from Maine, Connecticut, and Rhode Island too.

The New England Shirdi Sai Parivaar NESSP was an initiative of a small group of families several years back with the mission of spreading Baba’s message of love and kindness in human beings. The group continued to grow and a temple was formed in Dracut in December 2007 and moved to bigger premises in May 2010 in Chelmsford.   On the day of Vijayadashmi in 2011 the grand murthi of Sri Sai Baba arrived and then first priest was hired. More and more people have been joining the ‘Parivaar’ (family) every month and the Temple realized the need to open for longer hours to meet visitors expectations and to provide the contentment for their religious and spiritual needs.

NESSP is glad to announce that with one recent hiring of a priest, The NESSP Temple in Chelmsford will be able to perform four aarthis in a traditional way (as done in Shirdi). The Temple hours have been extended now every day morning from 8:30am till 1:00pm, Weekdays evening 6:30 to 9:30pm, weekend evenings 4:00 to 8:00pm. The Kakad  and Madhyan Aarthi will be at 8:30 am and 12:00pm every day. Dhoop Aarthi on weekdays is at 8:00pm, and in weekends at 6:00pm. Shej Aarthi timings are weekdays 9:00pm, Thursday 9:30pm, Weekends 7:30pm.

The Temple is located at 290 Littleton Road in Chelmsford MA and is majorly run by volunteers and their families Sundays are the time to perform Abhishekam. The details about being a volunteer and do Seva is available at www.nessp.org. The temple organizes religious and cultural events throughout the year and more information about the events is available online. With the support from volunteers and priest, the temple will now be able to offer full services in the temple and at devotees home. NESSP would like to thank all the devotees in the New England area and beyond for their blessings and support.
