On February 5th, 2012, Gavel Club had its first meeting in Sharon, MA, at the newly opened 388 Learning Center. The aim of the Gavel Club is to teach speaking and debate skills in a public setting. Gavel Clubs also attempt to cure stage fright. "Gavel Club will help you to speak confidently and communicate effectively,” says Mr. Shridhar Singh, who is VP Education of the Gavel Club. At the first Gavel Club meeting, members participated in their first debate.

The format of the meet was a Socratic Seminar, which is a debate model dating all the way back to Ancient Greece and Socrates! The topic of the first debate was the name of this chapter of the gavel club. There were 6 names submitted and a debate over which was most suitable ensued. In the end Young Voices, submitted by Shridhar Singh, prevailed as the name of the chapter. In close second came Voice of a Generation, submitted by Vedant Chaudhari, and in 3rd came Voice of the Future, submitted by Srinivas Setty. Gavel Club meetings take place from 10 AM-12 PM on Sundays at the 388 Learning Center on 388 N. Main St. Sharon, MA 02067.
