Action for India(AFI), an organization inspired by and formed with the support of Sam Pitroda, advisor to the Prime Minister of India and Chairman of the National Innovation Council of India will hold its first annual forum on Jan 21 in New Delhi.  Action for India has partnered with several leading organizations such as TiE-Delhi, Pan IIT Alumni association, Ashoka, Deshpande Foundation, NASSCOM Foundation , Sankalp  and  Dasra  to organize the forum.

The organization hopes to identify successful social entrepreneurial processes and scale them. Sam Pitroda, is a strong believer in the power of technology to bring about scale. “Through technology we begin to think about things differently... How do we bring about generational change? How do you expedite the process of modernization and development? Action for India  is ultimately a movement for the world that will bring young talent together to think about new ways, new processes, new products, in a whole different paradigm for human development" says Pitroda. The forum brings together hundred young social innovators who have created a name for themselves in the field of social entrepreneurship in India.

“How can technology help social enterprises achieve 10x impact will be the key question that is explored in depth in this forum. We are very excited about the event and eagerly look forward to learning from grassroots entrepreneurs about catalysts and inhibitors that affect scale” says Sanjay Kadaveru, who is the Founder and President of Action for India. Many successful social enterprises that have achieved scale through technology serve as an inspiration for the founding of this organization.  “Organizations like Digital Green, RSBY, Aspiring Minds and babajob are fine exemplars of the concept” says Kadaveru.

Action for India has currently chosen areas of Energy, Education, Livelihoods, Health and Sanitation and Agriculture as focus areas for this forum.   Leading social entrepreneurs from each sector including Ashwin Naik, Harish Hande, Svati Bhogle, Willam Bissell, Mark Kahn and Sridhar Rajagopalan will be guiding the forum discussions. “We will be launching our search for awarding the Action For India Growth Prize.  The prize would including a five lakh cash prize and a bundle of free services  that would be given to the applicant who shows the greatest potential for growth”, says Kadaveru. Action for India  has  partnered with Ashoka, the leading global organization focused on identifying and supporting social entrepreneurs, to guide the evaluation and selection process.   â€¨â€¨To learn more about AFI please check out their website at http://actionforindia.org.
