TAGB Raises 15,000 For Jimmy Fund

10/26/2011

The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk in Boston, MA, allows participants to follow the course of the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon to honor friends, family, co-workers, and patients facing all forms of cancer.  The special about this year event is an active involvement of Telugu Association of Greater Boston (TAGB).  The association President Sri Koteswara Rao Kandukuri and his Executive Committee and their dedicated Volunteers, need to be congratulated for their efforts in extending the scope of association’s operations by taking part in this local organization’s noble cause.  It indicates that TAGB is not meant for a specific group of individuals and families but also for any activity which promotes the peace, health and progress of this world.

On Sunday the 18th September, 2011, TAGB Team under the leadership of Sri Koteswara Rao Kandukuri and 42 other members joined the thousands of walkers at the 26.2 mile starting point Hopkinton Town at 6am. The weather is very nice and perfect for our walkers.  It is an early fall day and air is cool but sunny.

Several local organizations, especially Blackstone Valley Indian Society (BVIS), individuals and many Indian families cheered the walkers throughout the walking line.  Most of the team members are first  time walkers of this event. The determination and devotion of this team is greatly appreciated by all. They all reached the destination point in Copley Square in Boston City around 3pm.  Several friends gathered there and received our heroes.  Organizers bused them to a function area.  TAGB has made every effort to share the primary objective of generating funds to support the cancer research by educating all its members through their regular emails, news letter “E-patrika” and word of mouth.  Result of this, their goal to raise $15,000 to Dana-Farber Cancer Research Institute is nearer to accomplish.

On this occasion one of the TAGB’s Youth member who has been taking treatment at Dana-Farber inspired the entire TAGB Team and other walkers by waking 26.2 miles in 7 hrs.  He writes in his facebook profile:  "....I walk for those bald little heads I see every time I walk into the Jimmy Fund. They're too young to have experienced the finer things in life or to even know what hit them. All they know is how to smile and they put a smile on my face while they're at it. Keep doing you, little soldiers. Now who's got a wheelchair I can use for the next 2 weeks? Haha...."

President Sri Koteswara Rao Kandukuri congratulated all TAGB Walkers for their enthusiasm and dedication to accomplish the Finish Line.  He Thanked all Fund Raisers/Donors/Volunteers for their valuable contribution towards this great cause.  The encouragement given by its Board of Trustees made the Executive Committee to plan and execute well.  The appreciation goes to the young leaders at various levels (College-3; High School-4; Middle School-4 and Elementary school-4) for their active participation and fund raising.
