Local Givings: Prashant Fadia Foundation And American India Foundation: AIF Is Awarded A $300,000 Grant -Project: Our Family, Our Neighborhood, Our World

09/01/2011

AIF was awarded a $300,000 grant from the US Department of State over two years for a project proposal to build engaged citizens across the Indian and Pakistani Punjab through new media and local art forms!

The project, “Our Family, Our Neighborhood, Our World” (O3) combines the global (new media) with the local (Punjabi art forms) as two powerful vehicles for educators and students to build and harness linkages of a shared Punjabi cultural identity and foster increased collaboration, cooperation, and understanding. This project will also connect Indian and Pakistani young people with the Punjabi and greater diaspora in the U.S. to create a global network of understanding and cooperation. iEARN, a global network of NGOs specializing in collaborative, media, and citizenship education and prior collaborator of AIF through DE and AYV, will serve as AIF’s partner in Pakistan. The project will include teacher training workshops, virtual exchange sessions, local student art festivals and teacher symposia in India and Pakistan. And in the United States, the project will be featured as the topic for the 2nd Annual Youth Summit and will culminate in a multimedia art exhibition at a major museum. Discussions and a tentative agreement have been reached to debut the final work of a commissioned artist alongside the student work at the Asian Art Museum of SF. We will also recruit a Fellow to serve on the project and produce an instructional guide for educators

AIF is grateful for the generous support of the Prashant Fadia Foundation for making this series possible. For more information on AIF, stay tuned for our upcoming stories in the Lokvani series or visit www.aif.org
