Never before has the Indian community in Westborough, Greater Boston Area responded to corruption in India in such a way. This event was organized by Next Generation Foundation along with the organization India Against Corruption.

Hunderds of Indians gathered for 3 hours and chanted slogans, talked and educated others in support of the campaign against corruption and Anna Hazare. The IAC volunteers celebrated the passing of the resolution that accepted the three main demands of including the lower bureaucracy, appointing Lokayuktas in states and having a citizen's charter, raised by anti-corruption crusader.

Shri Suman Kumar and Dr. Srinath the IAC activists briefed about Anna Hazare's team and thier efforts and explained how the team came up with this Jan Lok Pal Bill. Pramit Maakoday from Next Generation Foundation talked about the Importance of Strong Anti Corruption Bill and explained differences between the Government Bill and Jan Lok Pal Bill. At one time, bribe was paid for getting wrong things done but now bribe is paid for getting right things done at right time. We have to make the Government and Institutions more citizens friendly, accountable, ethical and transparent, and this bill is a major step towards the same. In India, Urban and rural population from all walks of life is extending support to this movement. As a duty to our motherland, the NRI community should extend the support to this Anti Corruption Movement to help eradicate the corruption. We need to raise our voices to be heard and provide full support to pass a strong anti corruption bill. We have tolerated corruption for so long. The time has now come to root it out from its roots so that India can regain its past glory and once again be the Global leader.

If the corruption gets eradicated or even gets controlled in India then lot of doctors, scientists and engineers who are working abroad would return to thier motherland and contribute to the economy and rebuilding of the nation.

Everyone stressed the need for a strong and independent 3-tier anti-corruption institution: Lokpal at center, Lokayukta at state, and Ombudsman at district level. There was a discussion on how NRIs are affected by corruption in several ways, such as at customs, passport office and regitration office and so on.

Around 6.30 PM, the gathering started and soon the crowd grew, hundreds of people including small children, women and seniors citizens, from all parts and all religions of India were there. We have seen people on wheel chair joined and supported the the event. Few people travelled more than 2 hours to attend this event. The group Lit the candles in showing support and solidarity to the Anti Corruption movement and chanted slogans “We want Jan Lokpal”, “Anna nahi ye Aandhi hai, Desh ka doosra Gandhi hai” and “Stop corruption, Save India”, “Ek sur Ek Tal Jan Lokpal Jan Lokpal”.

The group Thanked the Parliament as they have listen to the Voice of the people, passed the bill and it is victory of people power. They also demanded that now this bill should not entangled in Technicalities and parliament should make sure that a strong bill to curb the corruption get passed as soon as possible.
