India Day 2011 at Hatch Shell Marks India’s Independence Day: Launches IAGB’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations

Once again, hundreds of exuberant dancers in spectacular costumes and a bevy of talented musicians and singers will perform at India Day 2011 on Sunday, August 14, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston. India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) hosts the annual event in collaboration with its affiliate, Saheli.

“India Day is a major community event that people look forward to participate in every year as performers, organizers and audience members,” said Mohan Dali, President, IAGB. “This year, we are marking the 64th anniversary of India’s independence from Great Britain.”

“The program is going to be extra-special this time because we are also launching the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations of IAGB, which was founded in 1962,” added Shiva Sheel, President of  the Golden Jubilee Committee. “We are planning events for the community beginning with India Day 2011, continuing into next year, and culminating with India Day 2012.”

A mouthwatering selection of Indian food will be available for purchase. Booths set up on the esplanade will feature an array of goods and services. Representatives of Indian-American organizations in the Boston area will be on hand to provide information about their activities.
