Lynnfield resident Victor F. Saldanha, M.D. was awarded the internationally competitive Service Above Self Award from Rotary International on June 29, 2011 at a gathering of 350 Rotarians at the Danversport Yacht Club to install the incoming District Governor, Asst. Governors and 47 Club Presidents of RI District 7930 for the year 2011-2012.

Rotary International is the largest service organization in the world, with 1.2 million members. Established in 1991 by the RI Board of Directors, the Service Above Self Award is Rotary International’s highest honor for an individual Rotarian who truly embodies Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self”. Recipients must have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service in Rotary’s four avenues of service: club, community, vocational and international, with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary. Service rendered through Rotary must have been on a continuing basis. A maximum of 150 recipients may be selected each year. This year only 135 Rotarians were selected for this prestigious award.

Saldanha has been a member of the Winthrop Rotary Club since 1982. In 2002-2003 he served as Governor of RI District 7930 which includes Lynnfield and Boston. He has been previously recognized by RI with multiple (10) Paul Harris Fellowships, Rotary District Service award, Distinguished District Governor award for 2002-03. He was also recognized as a Benefactor, Charter member of the Bequest Society and a Major Donor.

Dr. Saldanha is a member of the Cambridge Health Alliance and had a private practice in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics in Winthrop, Ma. till 2005. He was awarded the outstanding Community Service Award from IMANE in 2004.
