Like roots of a tree, is human brain/mind

                       (मस्तिष्क वृक्ष की जड़ों के समान)

by Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya (www.awgp.org

In sacred text of Gita, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, compares Man with a fig tree (पीपल वृक्ष), upside down. Which appears to have its roots above and the branches and leaves under. Brain/mind appears like the root and human body the tree. The branches and leaves are clearly visible but the roots —being hidden underground— are invisible. Nonetheless, the visible part of the tree in actuality reflects what those seemingly invisible roots crucially provide for the rest of the tree. When the roots of a tree don’t get water the branches and leaves would start to wilt and wither away. On the other hand, when the tree has it roots deeply burrowed into the ground enabling them to get plentiful of water and nutrients would make the tree grow quite well. Man also is in a similar situation. Thoughts (विचारणाएँ) happens to be his roots.

The quality of thoughts, core beliefs (आस्था) and aspirations (आकांक्षा) of an individual do create matching outer conditions for him. For example, the inner deprivation (आन्तरिक दरिद्रता) of an individual becomes manifested as inadequacy or shallowness in his outer life. The lack of knowledge and wisdom only reflects the lack of curiosity (जिज्ञासा). Only those Man deserve to enjoy happiness and satisfaction in their life, who have trained their mind to remain content with  meaningful utilization of their available resources.
