Kolam Academy Annual Day

Kolam Academy, under the direction of Sujatha Meyyappan presented their annual day celebrations on June 11, 2011 at the Chinmaya Maruthi Auditorium in Andover, MA.  Featuring over 35 dancers ranging in age from 5 to adult, the program featured a plethora of dances selected from a Bharatanatyam Margam.

 

The show opened with a prayer song by Sheela Ayyagari & Soumya Sreeram followed by a Pushpanjali in Saraswathi Ragam by Kaviya Vijayakumar, Jahnvi Patel, Nisha Patel, Janette Jerusal, Kruthi Patel & Yashvi Patel.

 

Anjali, which included a verse from Shyamala Dandakam was followed by a Mishra Allarippu by Karthiyayini Mahendrakumar, Pooja Patel & Samyuktha Gopinath. Jathiswaram by Chetna Ayyagari, Meghna Kanthan, Muvva Vangapalli, Poornima Patel & Shuruthe Ananthakrishnan was followed by Mahadeva Kauthuam by Aparna Srinivasan.

 

Sujatha choreographed a lovely tribute to Thiruvalluvar in her Multimedia presentation titled Thirukural Natyam.  This was presented by Amy Koleth, Anika Shroff, Anushka Philip, Aparna Shanmugam, Chetna Ayyagari, Meghna Kanthan, Sadhvi Sreeram, Sinthya Kumar, Solai Alagappan, Sweta Alla & Tara Joseph.

 

The teacher herself took center stage in the next presentation Sadaksharam, a composition of Madurai Muralidharan.  The presentation was very dynamic and highlighted the Sujatha’s ability to execute beautiful leaps and cover the stage.

 

The famous Gopalakrishna Bharathi’s En Palli Kondir Ayya where the poet wonders why Lord Rangantha assumed a “Palli” or sleeping posture in Srirangam was presented by Meghna Kanthan,  Muvva Vangapalli, Poornima Patel & Shuruthe Ananthakrishnan . Kavadi Chindu by Avani Patel, Mrudhula NithiyaKumar, Pavithra NithiyaKumar, Richa Juvekar, Saanvi Vutukur & Sruthi Ramesh was followed by a Thillana presented by Muvva Vangapalli & Shuruthe Ananthakrishnan.  A mangalam brought the event to conclusion.

 

It is always a delight to see the progression of young students as they ascend the training ladder of Bharatanatyam. Lokvani congratulates Kolam on creating a lovely presentation that  highlighted the ability of the students at all levels.
