CARROLL CENTER FOR THE BLIND TO CO-HOST VISUALLY IMPAIRED INDIAN DANCE TROUPE

Performance to take place on the 131st celebration of Helen Keller’s birth

The Carroll Center for the Blind will honor Helen Keller’s birthday on June 27, 2011, by co-hosting the Sunadha Dance Troupe, a group of visually impaired dancers from India, for a 7:00 p.m. performance at Newton Country Day School.

The Sunadha Dance Troupe is a classic Indian dance troupe for the visually impaired that is sponsored by the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. The trust is working to establish a National Cultural Academy, which would serve as a center for excellence that provides opportunities for talented disabled artists to fine-tune their skills and showcase their talents on national and international platforms.

The dance troupe currently is on tour across the United States, and already has impressed audiences from India to the United Kingdom. Accompanying the troupe will be performances by blind musicians from the local area.

The event is sponsored by The Carroll Center for the Blind, Newton Country Day School, New England Kannada Koota, and the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.

The public is invited to attend. For more details, contact Dina Rosenbaum at drosenbaum@carrollcenter.org or www.samarthanam.org/sunadha.
