Child Rights and You (CRY)
Boston’s Bollywood Dance Party a big hit!
More fun on the way – CRY Karaoke Night on April 16!

If the Academy-award winning film “Slumdog Millionaire” opened your eyes to the dire situation facing multitudes of India’s children, then Child Rights and You Boston is answering the call for help by organizing fun, unique events to raise funds for child rights and education!

On Saturday, Feb 12th, Child Rights and You Boston (http://www.cryboston.org) organized a highly entertaining Bollywood Dance party at the Mantra Restaurant’s Om Bar in Downtown Boston. The attendees had a blast dancing to the tunes of DJ Ramsy who flew in from Detroit just for this party! This event was also a total Valentine’s Day package: CRY patrons were offered a 15% discount at Mantra Restaurant (dinner), 5$ Shots (drinks) and (dancing) to hot Bollywood beats afterwards. Another incentive was stress-free, all-night parking for just 10$.

The event started off at around 10 p.m. and by 11.30 p.m., the Om Bar was packed with an enthusiastic, fun-loving crowd that danced non-stop through the night! DJ Ramsy kept the crowd on their feet by mixing all the latest Bollywood hits (“Sheila Ki Jawani”, “Munni Badnaam Hui”) with latest hip-hop hits (“I Gotta Feeling”, “OMG”). Not to forget the Bhangra hits (“Mundian To Bach ke” and “Jee Karda”) that got the crowd screaming in delight!

CRY Boston raised a whopping $2,000 from this event, all of which benefit underprivileged children. CRY Boston incurred no cost because Mantra Restaurant donated the Om Bar space and DJ Ramsy spun his music for free. We are thankful to both parties for their magnanimity and we hope to continue this partnership in the years to come!

To capitalize on the momentum generated from a successful Bollywood Party, CRY Boston is proud to unveil its next event planned on Saturday, April 16: CRY Boston Karaoke Night 2011!! Event participants can pick their songs in advance (song list will be published in advance), practice ahead of time and sing their hearts out at the event. Of course, spontaneous singers are more than welcome to have a drink or two, ease in to the setting and just come up and perform impromptu! Singers from last year appreciated singing their favorite songs using the professional WebbyShop karaoke system which we plan to use again this year.

The event will be held at the classy Bollywood Grill Restaurant in Natick, MA. Bollywood Grill will also be serving dinner and drinks for those who are interested. Parking is free. Please call Bharath @ (312) 560 6532 or visit http://www.cryboston.org for more information about this event. Singers are encouraged to register for the event before the space fills up. Last year, we sold out early and had to turn down singers. Be an early bird to be assured of a seat!

Shefali Sunderlal, President CRY America, emphasized the need for individuals to participate in such events and support the cause of child rights. She said, “It is CRY America’s hope that a time will come when all marginalized children will attain their basic rights to learn, live, play, and realize their own full potential. We believe that each one of us can make a difference and that together, we will create a movement that irrevocably changes children’s lives.”
