A spirit of holidays was very much in the air when 400 Sharon residents got together to celebrate the 2010 annual Diwali party on November 20 at Mansfield High School, MA.  An attractively decorated foyer entrance, delicious appetizers served in a tastefully decorated cafeteria that facilitated meeting and greeting between friends and neighbors created a charged atmosphere of festivity.  President of Indian American Association of Sharon, Bindu Wadhwa welcomed the audience. A delightful cultural program ensued with the opening item being a traditional group pooja and aarti led by Kusum Bhargava. Group recitals that featured live music, traditional and folk/fusion dance and drama entertained the audience non-stop for the remaining 2 hours. Some dance items featured energetic display by only boys, some featured graceful dancing by only girls, and the remaining items featured a harmonious combination of grace and energy by both boys and girls. More than 100 participants took part in the cultural program.

Five elegantly dressed Sharon high school students Divya Bhatia, Rohan Krishnamoorty, Jasmine Wadhwa,  Supriya Goel and Nishanth Kadaba introduced  the items with energy and verve. Bharatnatyam , Bollywood, folk and fusion dances featured bright and colorful costumes, a play about vice and wisdom educated the audience on choices in life, a Bollywood song medley by adults entertained the 400 strong audience in the auditorium. “Every year we see more enthusiasm, more participation and talent” said Hemant Mehta who was the featured speaker of the evening.

Dinner and dancing followed the cultural program into the late hours of the night. The event was well attended and enjoyed by members of Sharon community. The members of the management committee of Indian American Association of Sharon and teachers of the items in the cultural program had put in long hours of effort since summer of 2010 to make the event possible and deserve well deserved congratulations.
