IMANE Honors Community Leaders

Indian Medical Association of New England celebrated its 32 Annual Gala on November 20, 2010 at the Burlington Marriott. It was a very successful event, which was well attended by physicians from all over NE. It started at 5 pm with traditional General Body Meeting and election of new Committee for 2011. This was followed by an hour of networking when the doctors and their families get to meet old friends and make new ones. It also gave a chance for new doctors to meet their peers and meet well known doctors like Dr. Dinesh Patel, who attended the event. Members also get a chance to see presentations by various exhibitors and charities like Indian Circle for Caring.

The Chief Guest of the Gala was Navjeet Bal, Commissioner, Department of Revenue, Commonwealth of MA. She gave an fascinating talk about her family background in medical world, tax laws and also talked about her optimism in improving economy.

This was followed by a speech by Dr. Geeta Trivedi, current IMANE President who thanked her Executive Committee for a wonderful supportive year.  Dr. Nasir Khan served as the master of ceremonies for the evening who in his inimitable style introduced the three doctors who were given awards related to Community service. IMANE has always had a tradition of helping the community and recognizing the doctors who make a difference.

This year’s recipients were Dr. Janine Saldanha, who received the Community award for 2010. Dr. Prasad Srinivasan and Dr. Manju Sheth were also awarded the Certificate of Excellence for Community Service.

Manju Sheth considered the honor very special . "What can be better in life  than to be honored for your passions in life by your peers &mentors.
Communty service is a  huge passion of mine" said Sheth. "On a lighter note, now my 12 yrs  Shaleen actually considers me cool!"

Dr Srinivasan is also elected state Rep in Connecticut, one of the few Indian Americans in public office. Dr. Janine Saldanha was not able to attend the event in person.  Saldanha has served an active role in many organizations including the Indian American Forum for Political Education.

The event ended with a speech by incoming President Dr. Arun Chaudhary who welcomed his new Committee and thanked the trustees. The dinner was provided by Gourmet India followed by dancing to the fabulous music of Dj Yogi.

IMANE continues to grow with the support of its Past Presidents and Members, reaching out to various local and national organizations and charities, providing free clinics and help for good causes.
