Stand Tall - A Poem By Dr. Niranjani Dudani

Niranjan Dudani
01/15/2003

Those long hours of studies,
A glass of warm milk from mother,
Tranquil were the streets,
When friends met in neighborhood,
Chattering like crunchy snacks,
Oh, that was so good, so far away!

Excitement soared to skies,
Like eagles flying high and free,
When the test results came in,
Jumping in joy like popping corn,
With top honors, the reality dawned,
Onwards to the land of opportunity!

The Maya of web in cyberspace.
Computer chips. semi-conductor cells,
Belying aspirations of brain power,
Mystery of how millions were made,
Was it economy-you stupid,
Nay, the calculator gene-you dope!

Nine eleven was never was never to forget;
When terrorists blasted the twin towers,
As the whites, the blacks, yellows ‘n browns,
Of all Faiths burnt in twisted cauldrons,
But the grudge in streets- sadly against,
Beards, turbans, Asians of brown skins!

Its a land of Liberty-law does prevail,
Justices may be delayed but not denied,
Like a devouring disease consuming minds,
Prejudices play havoc in streets,
Dodge the scum, be streetwise, stand tall,
The Law stands by you-Faith abide with thee!
