Sanjeevani Bhelande Concert - Ekal Vidyalaya

Sanjeevani Bhelande, the first winner of of Sa Re Ga Ma presented a scintillating concert at the Marlboro Middle school on May 2 2010. The concert was organized as a fundraiser for the Ekal Vidyalaya foundation.
Over 350 people attended the event.

The event opened with an Ekal Vidyalaya presentation that showed the impact that the schools run by the foundation is having on the lives of adivasi children in remote villages.

Following the presentation Chatna Sanghvi & Manpreet Nehra welcomed the audience & started the program with Sanjeevani Bhelande & Dr. Sudha Mehta lighting the deep.  Saraswathi Vandana by students of Suchita Rao served as an opening act for the the main concert of the evening  by Sanjeevani Bhelande. She was accompanied by Amit Mehta who played Tabla and also served as a vocalist.  Mohit Shastry who played the  Keyboard & Rupesh Rane on Octopad.

Sanjeevani mesmerized the audience with Bhoole Bisre Geets & it brought back the nostalgic memories of 50 years of Golden Indian cinema.  She sang the ever green hits of Noor Jehan, Geeta Dutt, Shamshad Begum & of course Lata Ji.  Her chulbulli voice won the admiration with thunderous applause from every one in the auditorium.  She sang non stop for 90 minutes & every one loved every minute.

Just before the intermission Mr. Puran Dang, our chief guest, reminded the audience about the great work Ekal Vidyalaya is doing in eradicating the scourge of illiteracy from the face of tribal India & asked for their support.  He donated an amount of $1460.00 for 4 schools .  Astha Agarwal an 8th grader gave a passionate speech & said that she & all other children in the US are very fortunate that they are getting first class education  where as in India thousands of children her age had no opportunity to attend school.  She asked everyone in the audience to get involved & educate the less fortunate children. 

Harshad Sanghvi a  well known local cardiologist & Ekal volunteer described his experiences and  gave data on the reach of Ekal . "We have over 27,000 schools in full operation educating over 800,000 children & our goal is to open 100,000 schools by 2013" said Harshad Sanghvi. a   The first half concluded with another Ekal video.   This excellent video created a great impact on audience who pledged over $10,00 to sponsor over 30 schools.

After break once again Sanjeevni took the center stage & sang favorite old & new film songs.  The finale was Vandey Matram which moved every one.  Ram Nehra, the coordinator for New England, gave a vote of thanks. "We are grateful to the artists who traveled thousands of miles & came here to promote education in India, thanked the audience who took out time from their very busy schedule to support the Ekal cause,  the volunteers the unsang heroes who worked so hard to make this a great success.  Also we are extremely grateful to Lokvani & Sounds of India for their promotion, Pinku's Restaurant for providing the food, Prasang decorators for decorations, Full Force Sound for state of art audio system & Marlboro School for their auditorium" said Nehra.

A great evening to support a great cause!
