Ranjani Saigal
03/04/2010

The India Society of Worcester hosted the Boogie Woogie Talent auditions at the Marlborough Middle School  on Saturday , Feb 27 2010.  Featuring presentations by over 20 competitors and several wonderful non-competition showcase items, the dance and music extravaganza presented a fine array of talent.

BOOGIE WOOGIE,  the longest running dance realty show on Sony Television  was the first show of its kind on  Indian Television. It has been entertaining audiences over the past thirteen years. Hosted by Film and Television personalities Naved and Ravi, the highlight of the show is Javed Jaffery, who is the permanent celebrity judge.

BOOGIE WOOGIE has helped in the development of a lot of talent and opened the platform for participation to talented and aspiring dancers many of who have gone onto to make some great careers in the field of dance.
Milan Cultural Association has been conducting this event in New England for the last two years.

The event opened with "Baje Mridanga" a Ganesh Vandana by the students of Ranjani Saigal.  The BU Acapella group "Suno" delighted the audience with a unique twist on many popular Bollywood and western songs.

The junior section of the competition had ten participants vying for a chance to perform at the national US auditions. Luv Karia, Ami Shalabh, Alok Macharla won first, second and third place respectively.

After the junior competition, members of the Aaroh music group, Suzana Naik and Shraddha  Agrawal presented a few lovely Karoke numbers.  Mitali Biswas and her group, Jasmin Shah's group and BU's Chankar group presented very well choreographed numbers.

The senior competition followed with
Anoop Macharla, Subh Agrawal and Chirg Sethi  winning first ,second and third place respectively. Unfortunately some of the excellent performers in the senior competition did not win because they choose non-bollywood numbers , which is against Boogie-Woogie rules. The judges Mamta Patel , Shaku Patel and Ms. Reddy provided great feedback to the participants.

The event ended with Mr. Sharma , President of Milan Cultural Association along with Ragini Seth (President of ISW), Dr Sahdev Passey, Bhavna Shrivastav (ISW Cultural Secretary)  and Mr. Sharma (of ISW) handing out the certificates and the awards.

Lokvani wishes the winners the very best of luck as they proceed to compete at the national talent search.
