Telangana Dhoom Dhaam In Boston A Huge Success!

Waves of Telangana slogans hit the Boston shore -
at Telangana Dhoom Dhaam 2010

Ebbs and tides of Jai Telangana slogans shrilled, echoing across the hall way in the Keefe Tech School’s auditorium in Framingham, Massachusetts on the evening of February the 6th, 2010, as the cultural programs, folk songs, dances, music of the Telangana flavor were thoroughly enjoyed by over five hundred of NRIs of the Greater Boston area. Despite the chilling
temperatures below freezing point, a large crowd of enthusiasts and supporters participated in the event making it a roaring success.

Telangana NRI Association (TeNA) has been conducting various events in the Boston area and also across several other cities in the United States for the past 4 years, of which the Telangana Night, a cultural event has been a favorite of the Greater Boston area patrons. Keeping in view of the on-going democratic Telangana Statehood movement in India, with a mark of solidarity and in support of the cause, the 2010 event has been aptly christened as
“Telangana Dhoom Dhaam” to instill the spirit of the Telangana in the minds of the Greater Boston community, afresh again!

This year’s event was even more delighting for those who attended, as the classic-Telugumovie “MaaBhoomi" famed Sandhya, or Sandhyakka, as the Telanganites affectionately call her, sang melodious folk songs. Sandhyakka, who has been an activist and proponent of the Telangana cause for over a decade, brought nostalgic memories of the rural folklore unique to
the Telangana culture. She also enlivened the audiences with her enchanting voice as everyone stood-up clapping and dancing to the tunes of songs like “ Rela re Rela re” and “Jaya Jaya he Telangana”.

Apart from the riveting songs of Sandhyakka, there were other cultural programs including dance performances of kids, music and folk songs, skit by the Telangana enthusiasts of the area on the Telangana cause and supporting the movement.

After the cultural programs, the event included the felicitation of the guests: Sandhyakka & Lakshmaiah, and senior writer from Telangana settled in the United States Gopal Alankar & Devayani. This occasion also marked honoring Dr. Venkat Maroju & Vijaya Maroju who have contributed a lot with their relentless efforts in bringing the awareness of the Telangana
culture and heritage in the USA and especially in Greater Boston area.

Ramesh Dadigala, member of TeNA, thanked all those who were involved in making this event a grand success: Srinivas Rao & Manjula Meneni, Venkat Reddy & Saritha Muddasani, Rammohan & Vinaya Surineni, Sunil & Kavitha Peechara, Badri & Jyothy Macharla, Venu & Srilatha Veeramaneni,. Ramesh & Parvathi Dadigala, Raghu & Sravanthi Verabelli, Kumar & Soujanya Dongari, Sridhar & Shilpa Takkalapally, Rajender & Rohini Kalavala, Shanti & Naveena Putta, Venkat and Vijaya Maroju, Amar & Geethanjali Karmilla, Varsha & Surender, Praveen & Sri Vani Moluguri, Raydas Manthena, Vijay Kaki, Sumanth Garakarajula, Siddartha Pamulaparty, Santosh Kaloji, Sai Swaroop Thota, Swarun Buddineni, Shashi Kiran Deshetti, and Murali.

The event was followed by a dinner with delicious Telangana flavors. The program was a great success and was able to raise funds through several ways, distributing calendars, stickers, selling candles prepared by young kids for supporting the deprived and less fortunate of the Telangana region, especially for the needy during this time of the movement
