Solar Energy At Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam

The Shankara Matham in Kanchipuram, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, is well known for its positive impact on society. The Holy preceptors at the matham have done yeoman service to society by setting up many institutions, such as hospitals and schools, that help uplift the poor and the downtrodden. While the traditions are ancient, the Acharyas welcome technological progress wherever such progress is in keeping with Dharma.

The Acharyas are always looking for other ways for the betterment of society and constantly encourage followers of Sanathana Dharma to limit one's wants and live modestly and increase one's positive impact on society while leading a dharmic way of life.

Many bhaktas show up with various social projects, but not all of them meet the high standard required to earn the seal of approval of the Acharyas.

So, it is quite significant that, when they were presented with the benefits of putting up a solar power plant at the Matham,  they were delighted in knowing that it will significantly reduce the Matham's own carbon footprint and bring about other benefits to society in keeping with Sanathana Dharma in which the Sun is a life sustaining source of energy, and finds a place of prominence in its teachings.

On the auspicious occasion of the 75th Jayanthi of our beloved Acharya, His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamiji, Kanchi Kamakoti Seva Foundation (KKSF) and Yieldopia.org proposed an undertaking to install Solar Power at Kanchi Matham in Tamil Nadu, India. The project met with the approval of the Acharyas and received their blessings.

This project brings multifold benefits, making it a cause worthy of the support of the readers of this article.

Firstly, it eases the strain on the already heavily loaded Southern grid, and generates pollution-free renewable energy from Solar panels for use by the Mutt for the next 30 years.

More importantly, the money saved in electricity bills over the years gets redirected towards safeguarding of Sanathana Dharma by way of funding educational and social activities that are in keeping with dharma.

The Acharyas have always lead by example, and hopefully with this effort they will inspire many others to adopt use of renewable energy sources thereby helping us move towards a greener planet.
