I am pretty sure all those who attended the magical evening on November 1st left longing for more masti, more romantic and fun filled songs. Yet again, Saptaswar delivered an outstanding musical night for all the Bollywood music lovers. It was an evening dedicated to our favourite Shahrukh, Aamir and Salman Khan. Definitely the Khans do rule our hearts, but on that evening, our hearts danced to the tunes rendered by the singers and musicians of Saptaswar. Saptaswar did create the magic.

Sudha and Raghu gave a beautiful start to the show with romantic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. When you think of romance, you think of King Khan, aka our very own Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, and definitely romance is incomplete without this melodious song. Next came Vinay who wonderfully delivered Aankhon Main Teri, from the movie Om Shanti Om – Shahrukh khan’s home production. Rahul and Krithika’s Aati Kya Khandala vividly potrayed Aamir and Rani’s playful banter from the movie Ghulam, in which Aamir did a wonderful job, but Rahul could definitely give him a run for his money with this performance.

Vinay charmed the audience with Ye Kali Kali Aankhen from the movie Baazigar, the movie with a twist which also introduced Shahrukh in a villainous role. The melody queen, Sudha ruled the stage and our hearts once again, with Yeh Mera Dil from the movie Don. The evening would have been incomplete without Aate Jaate Haste Gaate, an everlasting love song which was delivered at its best by Krithika and Raghu. Masti and fun returned back with Sudha and Vinay entertaining the audience in their naughtiness and light hearted spirit with Ye Lo Ji Sanam from the movie Andaz Apna Apna, starring two of our favourite khans – Aamir and Salman. The crowd really enjoyed their light classical finale to the song.

Love was back in the air when Baahon Ke Darmiyan got people humming to the melodious guitar chords of Raj that matched Krithika and Raghu’s soulful vocals. You can never go wrong with certain songs, and Vinay created his magic once again with a performance of Papa Kehte Hai. This is probably one song that anyone can listen to at anytime, from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak - the movie that launched Aamir Khan into the hearts of all the young girls. Roshan on the saxophone added that jazzy western feel that gave this song so much panache. Rahul and Vinay gave a powerful performance by singing Dil Chahta Hai. They did complete justice to the song and crowd definitely identified with their camaraderie on the stage. The romantic medley started off with Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, followed by the hit Dekha Hai Pehli Baar, from the movie Saajan, both beautifully sung by Sudha and Vinay. Raghu made his presence felt again by, delivering Jaadu Teri Nazar from the movie Darr. The medley was brought to grand; end with Krithika and Raghu singing the smash hit, Mujhe Neend Na Aaye in style. The magic created at the end of this medley by these singers left the crowd spellbound.

Rahul rolled out his solo for the evening- Guzarish – with such emotions that left the audience in awe. I wish I could ask him to sing this song once again, for it was so beautifully sung. Sudha and Raghu came back again and this time, they delivered a super duper hit song Didi Tera Devar from the greatest blockbuster movie of all time, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. The singers and band members beautifully recreated the playfulness of that song.

The moment that made the crowd speechless, was when Sudha, Raghu and Christy delivered the most romantic Bollywood song, Pehla Nasha, in their own unplugged version. Christy is known for his wizardry on keyboards, but this time he also amazed the audience with his vocals. The unplugged version by the trio was definitely a great original effort and it was well received by the crowd.

The last piece of the show, the masti medley was full of fun and masti as rightly called. Rahul started it off by singing Oh Oh Jaane Jaana delivering it with perfection. Sudha and Rahul belted out the high pitched Chaiyya Chaiyya and Rang De Basanti to end the medley. Hiral recreated the magical train feel with his tub thumping rhythm in Chaiyya Chaiyaa. The adrenaline pumping tabla – keyboard jugalbandi kicked off by Harshal and Christy resulted in what seemed like an impromptu symphony with individual pieces by each of the talented Saptaswar instrumentalists. Rang De Basanti, fired up the feelings of patriotism in the hearts of one and all present, reminding us of the brave Bhagat Singh, a freedom martyr. The hall echoed with cheers and applauds.  The crowd loved every bit of it and wished that the evening would not have come to an end.

The singers did an amazing job in creating magic and entertaining the people. The accompanying music was at par, with Christy on the keyboard, running his magical fingers. Raj on the guitar did an awesome job, Hiral and Harshal on the drums and tabla respectively did an outstanding job as well. The teenager Roshan on the Saxophone was loved by the audience; his talent was very well showcased.
A special mention must be made of the charming compere for the evening Swathi Subramanian who held the show together and kept the audience in the loop with her snippets and trivia about the actors and their films.

Under the guidance of Mohan Somasundaran, the entire team of Saptaswar, including the musicians and the volunteers who comprised of friends, spouses and family members of the performers who pitched in with great enthusiasm did a wonderful job in delivering a high impact show. That evening the crowd left with hearts filled with music and stomach filled with delicious food provided by Minerva. I can’t wait to attend more events hosted by Saptaswar!
