Deepavali Celebration and Grand opening of VPS Braj Center in the South Shore

In the quiet South Shore town of Holbrook, dedicated volunteers continue to put finishing touches on the Braj Mandir, Vrindavana Preservation Society’s new Nimbarki Vaisnava temple. The grand opening of the center will be held on the 25th of October 2009 at 4:00 pm.

The Vrindavana Preservation Society(VPS) is a South Shore non-profit Organization founded on August 30th 1998 and is  dedicated to preserving the holy land of Braj Mandal, located about 60 miles from New Delhi, India and in promoting Braj culture around the world.  VPS is run exclusively by volunteers.

Since its inception VPS has achieved significant milestones including rebuilding of Historical monuments in Braj Mandal, successful reforestation efforts in the area, and the preservation of   unique spiritual culture and simple lifestyle of Braj Mandal. In the United States, VPS created the Vaisnava Academy, a South Shore Sunday school dedicated to teaching Indian culture to youth. Over the last decade, VPS has presented several cultural programs to commemorate Holi, Radhastami, Diwali and other Indian festivals.

In the summer of this year, VPS conducted the most prestigious Cricket tournament in the South Shore. This is the seventh successful year for this tournament, since its inception in 2003.  All these milestones were accomplished, thanks to the dedication, generosity, passion and hard work of VPS supporters, volunteers and patrons.

The establishment of the Braj Center marks a new chapter in the rich growth of VPS as an organization. For several of the past months, numerous volunteers working in the spirit of selfless service continue to make giant strides in the completion of the center. This center will be the venue of future cultural events presented by VPS. VPS also plans to conduct Vaisnava Academy classes at the center.

As mentioned above, VPS will open the doors of its center to the public, with a gala celebration, on the 25th of October. In addition to the opening of the center, a celebration of Deepavali, the festival of lights also is planned at the venue, for that day.

Prayer, chanting and song will be part of the day's celebration. Another continuing tradition of VPS is to offer free food to all those who grace its cultural events. Indeed, this event will continue that tradition. We look forward to your joining us at this family friendly event.

Finally, we could like to thank our generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers in making this center a reality.
