Fall Foliage Bike Ride To Benefit AIF

09/30/2009

We regret to inform that the Bike Ride has been canceled due to inclement weather. Sorry for the inconvenience

The American India Foundation (AIF – founded in 2001) is a non profit, philanthropic organization, whose mission is to accelerate social and economic change in India, with a primary focus on education, livelihood, and public health for the most disadvantaged of the society.

AIF works in partnership with NGOs in India, and has invested in over 100 Indian non-governmental organizations, while raising about $50 million since its inception.  It is one of the largest secular American organizations supporting development work in India and is honored to have President Bill Clinton as its honorary chair, and Dr. Amartya Sen on its advisory board. You can find more details about AIF at
www.aif.org.

As part of the fund raising efforts to support this organization,  a Fall Foliage Bike Ride event is to be held on October 3rd, 2009 (rain date – October 4th). The event is a fun ride through a scenic route along the streets of Concord-Carlisle, set in the backdrop of colorful fall foliage. This is the second year of holding such an event, and it is hoped  that it will become a fun annual AIF tradition in the years to come.

The funds raised thru the Bike Ride event this year will go towards the Rickshaw Puller's Program which is part of the livelihood track funded by AIF. Every $250 you raise will allow a rickshaw puller to own his rickshaw. Instead of renting, and never being able to own a rickshaw in his lifetime, the rickshaw puller can now take a loan and pay it off in one or two years time, thanks to the unique microfinance initiative by AIF.
