Office Of New Bostonians Celebrates 10th Annual Community Day

The 10th Annual New Bostonian Community Day took place on September 23, 2009 at Boston City Hall, from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. This event has become one of Boston’s most visible celebrations of immigrants and multiculturalism.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino, welcomed the newcomers to the city of Boston, promising that they would have the same opportunities as people before them. “Diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and if we work together, we will build a stronger and better Boston,” He said.

To celebrate our New Bostonians Community Day’s 10th  anniversary, the Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians presented  10 talented performers of Boston’s multicultural communities to showcase their diverse artistic talents.  At this event, the finalist  performer or group was  chosen to perform at the “We Are Boston” Gala Dinner honoring world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at The Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston Street, in Boston.

Activities throughout the day  included: A Flag Parade representing the diversity of our communities, in which Kumu Gupta represented India. Also offered were -  Free Immigration advice from Attorneys, multilingual tours of City Hall, College & Trade Schools fair, Resource and Art tables.
