Photo Spot: A Fresh Perspective

Binita Patel

Chances are that you’ve taken a photograph at least once in your life.  Some people shoot with confidence, while others fear the responsibility.  Regardless of which end of this spectrum you lie, ask yourself this: How do I take a photograph?  Do I simply raise the camera to eye-level and “click”?!  For more fun and interesting photos, consider a fresh perspective.  Try to approach the photo from a new angle… really high, really low, far away or up close.   You’ll be surprised at the results.

Here are some easy ways to give your home photos “a fresh perspective”.  Until next time… happy shooting!

1)

Get High – Consider placing yourself higher than the subject, so that your subject must look up and into the camera.  This  simple change in perspective will not only create a new frame of  reference, but it is usually flattering to the subject as well. So go  ahead and get on that bench, climb that tree or make your way to the  top of the steps.  It’ll be worth it.

2)

Get  Low – Now try the exact opposite, and get really low… yes, get yourself on  the ground.  You’ll find that this  perspective works really well with children, as it tends to bring out the  expression of their natural curiosity.   “Why is this person on the ground”?

3)

Go  Far & Away – Take a step back… now take another step back.  Try to capture the surroundings of your  subject, not just the subject itself.   This technique adds a bit more depth and feeling to the photo, enabling  you to recall the atmosphere of when the photo was taken.

4)

Get  Up Close & Personal – An up close look at your subject can really help  capture the emotion of the moment… a brief smile, an outburst of laughter, and  especially the expression of the eyes.   It takes a brave subject to allow up close shots, but the risk could be  well-worth the reward.

5)

Think  Outside the Box – Consider taking the focus off the face and putting the  spotlight on something else, such as an engagement ring this photo.  The photo will speak for itself.

6) A  Look from Behind – You don’t always have to take photos of your subject  head-on.  Consider taking a look from  behind, capturing a moment when no one is looking.  These candid moments will certainly be  appreciated.
