A Conversation For Our Time On Immortality

Dadi Janki is internationally acknowledged as a great spiritual teacher, mentor, visionary and unswerving  optimist with a deeply compassionate heart. At 93, she refuses to set limits and boundaries as to what is achievable and, in so doing, inspires others to understand that the too can make the impossible, possible.

Dr. Harvey Cox is Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard, where he has been teaching since 1965.  His research and teaching interests focus on the interaction of the religion, culture and politics. Meridith Porte producer and host at WLRN Public Television channel asked them questions to elicit an interesting conversation.

Dadi Janki in humble words told the story of the quest in her life  through her  experiences. At the age of two she had the question in her  mind about the existence of God and reaching Him. At the age of 5 she started reading scriptures, later  went to school but couldn’t find the answers. She also toured all over India and listened to sadhus and mahatmas, but couldn’t find a  guru who could answer her questions. Finally, she experienced God at the age of nineteen and handed herself to His service at the age of 21. She understood that God was eternal and that which comes from him is eternal. “ When I found the soul, I found discovered  the essential qualities – purity, peace, happiness, love and power. These qualities can’t be destroyed and grow when I share them among others,” said Dadi Janki

Dadi Janki’s said that spirituality is about the ability to attain or be conscious and of weakness without developing ego. Her advice is to use time, money and energy positively and efficiently without ego and attachment. Ego and attachment lead to greed and anger which ultimately cause suffering. She also said it is possible to transform despite many problems in the world. The key thing that is needed is realization and to adopt truth and move away from false.  Thus one becomes the driver of the live and can steer it in the right direction.

“One of the important shift of today is that scientists are open to the idea of religion. The old days of reductionistic science are passing. Hinduism has for long time appreciated the relationship between science and religion. Therefore don’t’ discard questioning spirituality,” was Dr. Cox’s advice to people who haven’t yet found spirituality.

The attendees not only got an opportunity of lifetime to listen to Dadi Janki but also practice Raja yoga meditation with her and finally receive blessings from Dadi.
