Director Piyush Jha's "Sikandar" has a soundtrack that has woven together different influences - Sufi, folk and even soft rock - as it brings together several composers and lyricists.

The music of the film “Sikandar” is composed by Sandesh Shandilya Justin Uday and Shankar Ehsaan Loy are guest composers in the album.

Dhoop Ka Sikka

Starting off on a nursery rhyme-ish note from Anusha Mani, this is a typical song from the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy collection. It contains elements of rock music, classical music etc in it and does remind one of their older tunes in places.  Apart from Anusha Mani the song also has Shankar Mahadevan on the vocals, who adds to the beauty of the song by throwing in some of his sargam in the second interlude. Prasoon Joshi has written some beautiful words for the track, which has the signature stamp of the composer trio on it. A beautiful track indeed.

Gulon Mein

This song pays tribute to the eminent Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The lyrics are taken from an old Urdu poem written by him, which has been used in ghazals by legends like Mehdi Hassan and Runa Laila in the past. The composers Justin Yesudas and Uday Kumar have done a splendid job of adapting the ghazal song to create a totally new tune that is heard in the serene version of the song. The song comes in two versions. One of the versions is called “Serene Version” and the other is the “Upbeat Version.”  The serene version is in Mohit Chauhan’s voice and the musical instrument used in the serene version is guitar. The song is romantic number and the Mohit’s voice makes the song powerful. The song is by Justin Uday. The lyrics are by Neelesh Misra who dedicated the song to Faiz Ahmad Faiz, the famous poet of Pakistan.

‘Gulon Mein (Upbeat Version)’ –The fast version of romantic song Gulon Mein has the keyboard sounds, guitar and other instruments and it is in voice of K.K. The fast version is by Sandesh Shandilya.

‘Arzoo (Naat)’ – Since the film is based in Kashmir a local number ‘naat ‘is also present in the album. The song is a spiritual number and it is in voice of a little boy Mehrajuddin. The local flavor and religious feel is present in the song.

Allah Hoo

A sufi song sung by Yash Narvekar and Hrishikesh Kamerkar, and composed by Justin-Uday again. The song starts off on an unimpressive note but gets better as it progresses. The singers have done a good job and most of  the song is a good listen.

Chaal apni

Crooned by Kamerkar and Hamsika Iyer Chaal apni  is a decent  number. The playful song has been composed by Justin-Uday and penned by Kumaar. With a folk feel to it, this melodious number is quite hummable.

Manzaraaat

The only thing going for this track is the vocals by Shilpa Rao. Despite being high on beats, "Manzaraat" may not impress too many listeners.

Overall a decent album that definitely has a few numbers worth listening to.
