"Shakti - Women of Power"
A MIT Natya Presentation

When: February 15, 2009
Time: 5:00 pm
Where: Little Kresge Auditorium, MIT, Cambridge, MA

The theme of the show is "Shakti - Women of Power", which will showcase the witty, powerful, and didactic stories of three Indian women in Hindu mythology - Kannagi, Savitri, and Draupadi. The performance this year is a unique combination of drama and dance. The inspiration for the show came from a desire to display prominent women in South Asian culture and the mark they have made upon gender roles in Indian society.

MIT Natya, MIT's premiere Indian Classical Dance group, staying true to the traditions of Bharatanatyam (South Indian Classical Dance), will present the stories of these three remarkable Indian women in Hindu mythology who have significantly impacted the landscape of India's gender roles and whose tales have transcended time.

The dancers are from MIT, with live musicians from Harvard College and Cooper Union. Please feel free to contact amritak@mit.edu, for information about the show.
