My Dateless Diary - An American Journey
by R.K.Narayan
Published by Penguin Books, 1988

This books adorns my bookshelf and is one of my personal favorites. The book is almost like a travelogue written in an unusual and witty way. When R.K.Narayan who I admire greatly, arrived in America at the age of fifty he recorded his impressions of the people and places he visited.

Written in a narrative fashion, the anectodes and incidents capture the energy and life of New York, the friendliness of the West Coast, the wealth of the Mid West and the magnificence of the Grand Canyon

Narayan also introduces us to celebrities like Greta Garbo, Aldous Huxley, Martha Graham,Cartier Bresson,Milton Singer and Ravi Shanker in his delightful inimitable manner

The best part of this book is you can open any page at any given time and read with interest about an endlessly fascinated land that R.K.Narayan himself admits in his foreword "a country I love"

I would highly recommend this book if you can get hold of a copy.
