Bhangra Competition Rocks Boston

If you like Bhangra, Boston was the place to be on November 15th, 2008.  Boston Bhangra, Inc hosted their 5th annual Boston Bhangra Competition, called BBC for short, at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston.  This was their fifth straight sell out event with close to 3,000 people in attendance.  Even with the dreadful weather, Bhangra fans were not going to be denied!!  It looks like Boston Bhangra has found a nitch market where they have been able to get some of the best teams from North America, some great live performing artists and cheap ticket prices to keep this an event on the up and up.  This year was no different.

This year, the competition level was very diverse and extremely competitive as they had teams from all over the US and Canada.  Teams hailed from Vancouver Canada, California, Virginia, Washington DC, Florida, New Jersey, and of course, Boston.  These teams put on a great show and made it very difficult for the judges.

All 12 teams put on a great show, but after everything was done, 3rd place went to Sher Foundation from California, 2nd place went to VCU from Virginia and 1st place went to Bhangra Empire from California.

To add even more excitement to the event, Boston Bhangra had special performances by the legendary Alaap group!  This artist is one of the pioneers of UK Bhangra and sang the following songs: Cham Cham Nachdi Phiran, Bhabiye Ni Bhabiye, Jind Mahi & Makhna.

One World Cuisine was the food vendor of choice as they sold snacks, dinner and drinks at the venue.

The show was recorded by Sahara One and will air internationally sometime in December!  Areas like America, Canada, Europe, UK and potentially India/Pakistan might get to view this spectacular event!  This is the only competition to have television advertising and airing throughout various parts of the globe!

Overall, this was a very successful year for the Boston Bhangra Competition, as all the pieces came together and everybody enjoyed the 3.5 hour show.  We highly recommend checking out this show which takes place in mid November every year.

Sahara One, Taj Hotels, Akshaya Patra, & One World Cuisine are some of the bigger sponsors that helped to make this show a reality.
