The Federation Of Gujarati Associations in North America (FOGANA) will hold its 28th North American Garba, Raas & Folk Dance Competition on July 26, 2008 at Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, MA. Three local Indian community organizations viz. Gurjar Association of New England, Patidar Samaj of New England and Charotaria Leuva Patidar Seva Samaj of USA are honored and pleased to host this unique and colorful dance competition, being held for the first time in Boston area. The event is scheduled from 1 pm to 6 pm.
The aim of this competition is to promote the popular folk dances of Gujarat, a state in Western India, amongst its youths and to popularize this unique ethnic art in American society. This competition is, in a true sense, a festival and endows many talented performers, choreographers, organizers, directors and judges with feelings of pride and joy. Over 500 young dancers will participate and close to 3,000 people are expected to attend this event.
We believe that this major cultural event for New England Indian community offers a unique opportunity and tremendous benefits to increase understanding and appreciation of the rich heritage of India in general and Gujarat in particular.
