SAMTA Announces Mentor Training Event

SAMTA is a nonprofit mentoring and tutoring organization dedicated to empowering youth to become positive agents of change in their own lives and in their communities. Toward this end, SAMTA provides youth with the resources, information, and support necessary to make more informed decisions regarding their academic choices, career and work choices, social and civic responsibilities. Over the last two years, SAMTA has been an active participant in the lives of the international students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.

You can get involved in SAMTA in the following ways: 

  * Become a mentor/tutor

Be a role model by spending time one-on-one with students, helping them think critically about the issues they face as adolescents.

  Attend our next mentor training session:

Date:                Saturday October 19th

Time:                3:00pm -  7:30pm

Place:               Cambridge Community Services

99 Bishop Allen Drive

In Central Square in Cambridge

Directions:        Take the T- red line to Central Sq. OR Drive to Central Sq.

Walk down Essex Street (the street between the Gap and Shalimar) away from Central Sq. 

Bishop Allen Drive is the first cross street

CCS is at the corner of Bishop Allen Drive and Essex Street .

  * Become a member of one of the following committees:

School Committee: Work with students directly in the school, addressing academic, career, political, and cultural issues.

Mentoring Committee: Provide training, support and coordination for the mentoring process.

Fundraising Committee: Organize events, obtain resources and do community outreach.

Please contact either Asha Balakrishnan at abala@alum.mit.edu or Vikram Punwani at vpunwani@mba2004.hbs.edu to get involved in one of the committees mentioned above.  Also, please keep a watch for our next general meeting, where you will get a chance to meet members of the various committees.
