Prof. M. Saleemuddin Of AMU Visits Boston

Mrs. Zakia & Prof. M. Saleemuddin, Coordinator Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Professor of Biochemistry Department, Faculty of Life Sciences, AMU visited the Boston area on June 26th, 2008. AAANE arranged for a "get-together". They were in Boston as personal guests of Dr. Shabana Islam and Dr. Syed Masarrat Ali.
 
Many alumni came to meet him and not only rekindle the sweet and nostalgic memories of the good old days at Aligarh, but also discuss the current state of affairs at Aligarh Muslim University, the perspective on the first ever Global Alumni Summit or just about anything under the sun.

Dr. Masarrat, a former student, said that Prof. Saleemuddin is a great academician and a thorough gentleman and a record number of his students have received Government of India awards and scholarships. Ali Rizvi, President of AAANE acknowledged that Many of his brightest students are in the New England Area and working in industry and academics as academicians and researchers." Dr. Shaida Andrabi said that Prof. Saleemuddin has been very instrumental in bringing the SSELSA (Sir Syed Excellence in Sciences Awards) to fruition. Dr. Shabana, a former student and whose father and Prof Saleemuddin were colleagues, and Dr. Masarrt hosted the Brunch at their residence in North Andover.

Prof. Saleemuddin has been the PVC and an Acting Vice Chancellor of AMU and is also the Vice Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Global Alumni Summit at AMU. Everyone enjoyed the evening. It was a great pleasure to see Dr. Shehla Reza, herself a retired biochemist teacher, also grace the event. On the ocassion, Prof Saleemuddin cut a cake which read: Academician of the year 2008. AAANE, Boston.
 
Prof. Saleemuddin for the benefit of all, gave an insight into the upcoming World Alumni Summit, at AMU in October 2008. He also gave a brief on life at AMU and the progress being made by AMU under the present administration of Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis.
 
He lauded the efforts of the AMU alumni all over the world and hoped that they will continue to act as ambassadors and play a proactive and constructive role in its development as an institute of higher learning, its academic programs, and its positive perception in industry and business.
