AID Offers A Musical Opportunity In Global Music Concert

GLOBAL RHYTHMS: A WORLD MUSIC ENSEMBLE

All proceeds directly benefit AID’s grassroots work in India. AID's projects focus on literacy, women's empowerment, tribal rights, education for child laborers, health awareness, religious and cultural pluralism and more.

Global Rhythms is a World Music Ensemble consisting of over 60 musicians that performs Indian raga based music integrated with music from Asia, Africa and South America, with an emphasis on rhythm. The group has played with Grammy award winning percussionists such as Horacio El Negro Hernandez, Eguie Castrillo, Jon Santos and Glen Velez. Other notable artistes who have played with Global Rhythms include Umayalapuram Sivaraman, T.V.Vasan, Manargudi Easwaran, Effrain Toro, Arnaldo Vacca, Hafiz Shabazz, Casey Scheurell, Min Xiao Fen and Mohamad Camara

The Artistes of Global Rhythms... This show will feature more than 60 artistes including 20 member perscussion ensemble and 40 singers (Miami University Choraliers), plus GUEST ARTISTS. A sampling of artiste profiles follows.

SRINIVAS KRISHNAN – Tabla (Indian finger drum). Srinivas is a Master Percussionist from India and has trained with four Indian master musicians. He performs on the tabla, the ghatam, the Middle Eastern dumbek, the Irish Bodhran, and the mridangam. His ability to perform with any ensemble has allowed him to be featured with some of the greatest artists in Europe, Asia and North America, giving over 1,000 concerts with such luminaries as Bob Schietroma, Emil Richards, Glen Velez, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Dr. L. Subramaniam, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Arnaldo Vacca, Jim Campbell, and Jamal Mohammad. Most recently, he directed the Closing Ceremony Concert at the Berklee College of Music Summer Festival. Srinivas has also regularly been called upon by Hollywood greats including Emil Richards, with artists of XAOS (led by George Lucas), artists from Real World (directed by Peter Gabriel) and from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

ROGER DAVIS - Bass Guitar and Musical Arrangements. ROGER DAVIS holds a DMA and a MM in composition from The Ohio State University. His Bachelors Degree is from Berklee College of Music. He was a faculty member at Berklee from 1984 through 1986 where he taught jazz theory, jazz arranging, aural training, and directed numerous jazz and popular music ensembles. Since 1990 he has served as Assistant Professor of music theory at Miami University. Dr. Davis is an active commercial music and art music composer. Dr. Davis's work, The Dancing Difference, was recorded by the Moravian Philharmonic, with Rubin Silve conducting. The CD is out on the Vienna Modern Masters label.

ETHAN SPERRY – Vocals. ETHAN SPERRY, an Assistant Professor of Music, conducts the Men's Glee Club and the Collegiate Chorale and teaches classes in voice and choral music. He holds a B.A. from Harvard College in Philosophy and Master's and Doctoral degrees in choral music from the University of Southern California. He has studied choral conducting with Jameson Marvin, William Dehning, and Robert Shaw, and orchestral conducting with John Barnett and Robert Spano. Sperry has recently been appointed Artistic Administrator of the Arad Philharmonic Chorus in Romania, where he conducted the Romanian premiere of the Dvorak Stabat Mater with the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.

PAT HERNLEY - Ghatam (Clay pot). Pat won a scholarship to study in India under T.V. Vasan, Uma Jaishankar, and Guruvayur Dorai. He is known for his skills on drumset and performs for the group "Glow Worm". Pat has also been trained in Vocal Indian Music and is currently mastering the complex art of Swara Kalpana.

KIRAN PATHAKOTA - Mridangam (double sided South Indian drum). Kiran is an 11 year old Mridangam Prodigy. He is a student of the renowned mridangam maestro Karaikudi Mani.
