When Bollywood meets Hollywood at TiECON East

It is late afternoon in early March when Prashant Shah, of Bollywood Hollywood productions receives a phone call in Florida from the TiE Boston office . The topic is trendy and relevant to a businessman like him looking for cross border networks in the US. He is being invited to be one of the panelists at the TiECON East conference on May 29th and May 30th at the Westin in Waltham.

Obviously a busy man, he is naturally multitasking while on the phone. And he couldn’t be more excited.” Yes, it is my pleasure and honor to be part of the media and entertainment panel at TiECON” he says. Vanita Shastri, TiE Boston new Executive Director is listening in. She is amazed at what happens next. “He continued our conversation while talking to others on different phone lines. When he puts me on hold for a minute, I can hear him talking to none other than Abhishek Bachhan on shooting dates and visa formalities. Then I overhear him telling somebody to arrange for 6 Harley Davidson’s for some scene shots for the movie. On the other end, he is shooting instructions for a champagne colored limo for a scene instead of a black one”

When we resume the conversation again; he offers to call Uday Kumar of Ad Labs as the other potential panelist. “It was just incredible” says,Shastri

The euphoria is warranted. “Dharma Production has just signed up  Bollywood Hollywood Production Inc. and  Prashant Shah as Line Producer for their upcoming feature film directed by Tarun Mansukhani to be shot in Miami, USA .A celebrity star  is already relaxing in the hotel room and could be overheard saying she needed rest and sleep before an early morning shoot the next day.

According to the FICCI-PricewaterhouseCoopers 2008 report on the M&E industry, , India’s entertainment and media business is poised to grow by 18 per cent over the next five years.

Which means that the latest developments in media from the perspective of leading content owners and distributors, advertisers, and Internet, mobile and technology companies is indeed an attractive area for potential investors.

TiE Boston is tackling the issue head on at its annual flagship conference by having a powerful track on ‘Leveraging India’s Growth’ where the media and entertainment industry will be discussed at length led by panel moderator, and MIT Professor Dr Arundhati Tuli Banerjee.

Prasad Thammineni and Amit Baid, Co Chairs of this track at TiECON East are equally thrilled with the line up of panelists.

Says Thammineni, “As co-chairs of Leveraging India's Growth, we have put a lot of thought and hard work into creating a panel and speaker lineup that is holistic and exciting. Between the three panels in this track the conference not only covers the growth engine of India in the last decade, namely outsourcing but also the opportunities of tomorrow and the excitement of Indian Cinema”

Says Baid,” We are putting together three panels - "India Land of Opportunities" that will discuss challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurs have faced while starting a new business in India, "The Media and Entertainment in India" panel that will involve discussion about the production, distribution and financing of Media and Entertainment businesses in India and , "The Outsourcing panel" that will showcase industry leaders in Outsourcing Industry and discuss the latest trends and opportunities in outsourcing industry.

Entrepreneurs seeking key opportunities and challenges across the digital media landscape will experience first hand the business models that have the greatest potential for success at this panel.

A large global growing market ,with talent and potential for creating global product, access to finance and new revenue streams and the desirability for international partnerships has brought in a new excitement to this industry.
