Dishoom! Traditionally this word has been used to represent a punch or a gunshot sound in the Bollywood movies of yesteryears. MIT SAAS’s Culture Show 2008 titled Dishoom certainly packed a punch with a wonderful amalgam of song, dance and light hearted clean comedy.

The event was held on April 11 200 at the Kresgee Auditorium at MIT. The event opened with a classical Bharatanatyam piece by MIT Natya chosen from the Dancing Nature’s Art dance creation which was brought to MIT by Amrita Saigal. The verse “Sahana Vavathu “used in the piece was perfect for a college event.  After the classical piece a very light hearted number titled Men in Heat choreographed by Sumit Khatod and Jugal Shah had boys dance Bollywood item numbers. It was certainly lighthearted.

MIT Chamak presentation choreographed by Sonia Nijhawan and Sarina Siddhanti  was  a blend of modern, ballet  and bharatanatyam styles of dance. The freshman dance titled Aaj Ka Dhamaka , Aaja Nachale was choreographed  by Akansha Kumar and Prarthna Desai.  The sophomore dance titled Dancing the Decades .. 2010 Style was choreographed by Manisha Padi and Sarina Siddhanti. Sravathi Kusuma and Sanjay Divakaran  helped choreograph a South Indian dance.

Deepa Mokshagundam’ s comedy routine was very amusing mostly taking shots at stereotypical brown parents.  Culture Shock , an east meets west group presented a number choreographed by Adlai Grayson, Aarthi Ramarathnam and Ragini Shyam. In the music section there was a north Indian classical ensemble which presented Raag Bhatiyar and a South Indian classical ensemble Swara that presented  Navaraga Varnam.

MIT Bhangara’s presentation was choreographed by Payal Agrawal and Kapil Dilwali. There was a poetry reading of the works of the famous Bengali poet Nazrul islam. The program ended with a junior dance choreographed by Joyatee Sarker and a senior dance choreographed by Payal Agrawal and Sony Verma A comic film created by the MIT DIshoom team served a connector for the event. The light hearted nature of the event made it a fun and  entertaining evening  for all attendees.
