Dr. Sahdev Passey Receives 2008 Community Clinician Of The Year Award

Sahdev R. Passey, M.D., Holden resident and Worcester physician,  has been named 2008 Community Clinician of the Year by the Worcester District Medical Society. The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community. The award was presented at the District's annual meeting April 9 at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester.

Dr. Passey, a board-certified pediatrician, has been in private practice in Worcester for the last 30 years. Widely active in the community, he is a board member of the Indian Medical Association of New England (IMANE), the South East Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts, and the Devereux School. Since 2005 has been director of Free Health Stop in Shrewsbury, a project of IMANE.

He is also a Community Trustee of the United Way of Central Massachusetts, Vice Speaker of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin Governing Body, Chairperson of the Bylaws Committee of IMANE and the India Society of Worcester, and since 1988 has served as chairperson of the Annual India Day Festival of the India Society of Worcester and Asian Festival of South East Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts since 2004. He is also on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Dr. Passey, a graduate of the Gandhi Medical College at Bhopal University in India, he serves on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. A member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 1988, he is a district delegate to the state society and also served on the International Medical Graduates committee.  

In recognizing Dr. Passey for this honor, the Worcester District said, in part, Dr. Passey is "organized, thorough, and fastidious in his approach to patient problems….His personal characteristics and his clinical acumen make him an outstanding role model to students, residents as well as other physicians. Dr. Sahdev Passey is an outstanding physician, a dynamic and visionary leader, and an unsung hero of the community in Worcester."
