Leherein - Food For Thought

Nirmala Garimella
02/06/2008

Every year, IAGB’s Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations have one dance item that attracted attention and the loudest applause. The dance group ‘Leherein’' specialty was to involve young boys, girls and adults into one big dance medley which culminated in a great performance on the large stage in front of a massive crowd. Now the group has branched out and added a completely new repertoire to their list – charity. What started out as a dance group which raised funds and gave all proceeds to orphanages in India has now grown into a non-profit organization  Their dream is to make a difference in the world by starting their own loving home to take care of a few children in the village of Shirur, near Pune, India.

Leherein team says â€œWe are very proud to have generated the funds mostly by means of choreographing, teaching dances and catering food for events.  Leherein tries not to solicit donations without providing a reciprocal service for it. They have been successfully providing food services for various community organizations such as New England Marathi Mandal (NEMM) and Gurjar in the Boston area.

The group now offers a special catering service "Home Made Dabba" (take out) for a minimal cost that will help support their efforts to provide a comfortable home and education for children in India. They hope that the community will contribute to their cause greatly by purchasing complete home made meals.

The initiative will start every other month starting from March 8th 2008. This they hope will help them with the steady income towards Leherein's home in India.
