Nagagopal Venna, MD, Of Boston Receives The Prestigious Brian McGovern Award

Dr. Nagagopal Venna, MD, MRCP (I), MRCP (UK) was honored in October 2007 with the Brian McGovern Award for Clinical Excellence at the Annual Physician Recognition Dinner of The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization and attended by about 600 physicians. This group represents nearly 2100 physicians from a wide range of medical specialties at the Massachusetts General Hospital, the main teaching hospital and medical institution of Harvard Medical School, Harvard University. The award recognizes commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care. The citation was read by the Dr. Anne Young, Chief of the Neurology Department: “Dr. Venna is incredibly well-read, erudite, knowledgeable and he likes to teach. His experience in even the rarest clinical cases is tremendous and he makes the diagnosis of the rare syndromes seem easier than it is for anyone else. He is one of the great teacher-clinicians. In the Clinic every single patient who is seen is discussed in detail with something interesting emerging even in the most routine cases. He is the doctor that you want your ill family member to see. He is the sage whom you want to discuss your case with. Every single interaction with him leads to an insight into the patient or yourself”.

Dr. Venna is a graduate of Guntur Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, did his internship at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad and trained in Internal Medicine in Ireland and in Neurology at the Neurological Unit of Boston City Hospital in Boston, USA. His excellence as a physician with expertise in diseases of the brain and nerves has been recognized by his peer doctors also by selection to the Best Doctors in America 5 times since 1996 and including current year of 2007. Dr. Venna’s contributions and dedication to teaching and training of physicians in Neurology over the past 25 years has been recognized by the Metcalf Award for Excellence in Teaching at Boston University and by the Teacher of the Year Award at the Neurology Department of Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University 3 times.

Dr. Venna lives with his wife Srimathi Usharani and sons Dr. Suraj and Dr. Praveen in Boston, USA.
