Your Soul’s Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance?

Devoted friend of the Indian community, Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., bestselling author, scientist, psychologist, and mystic will speak about her newest book, Your Soul’s Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance? at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th at Congregation Shirat Hayam in Swampscott, MA.

Dr. Borysenko completed her doctorate in the medical sciences at the Harvard Medical School where she also earned three post-doctoral fellowships. Joan was an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and was a co-founder and former Director of the Mind-Body Clinic at Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. A widely sought media expert on the integration of science, psychology, and spirituality, Dr. Borysenko has appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America and many other commercial and public television programs.

Your Soul’s Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance? was co-authored with her husband, philosopher and educator Gordon Dveirin, Ph.D. The two interviewed nearly 30 spiritual leaders of diverse wisdom traditions to explore the nature of spiritual guidance. Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Sufi, Quaker and secular sages offered universal teachings revealing “a common, essential spirituality that exists beyond concept or dogma.” These insights move us closer to wholeness and peace opening the heart to love, compassion, and healing actions. Dr. Deepak Chopra said of the book, “An elegant, simple, and practical guide to get in touch with your higher self and experience the field of infinite possibilities.”

Drs. Borysenko and Dveirin are co-founders of the Claritas Institute For Interspiritual Inquiry and its aligned Interspiritual Mentor Training Program. The program provides experiential and theoretic training drawing on the richness of the world’s spiritual teachings. Students are supported in their own spiritual formation as well as development of the skills necessary to guide others on their journeys.

In February of 2008 Joan Borysenko will be leading a two week Mystical Journey through India with Linda Backman, Ph.D. A number of sacred sites in Northern India will be included in this spiritual experience. Travelers will be immersed in the ancient spiritual traditions, sacred architecture, primeval landscapes of Aurangabed, Varanasi, Delhi, Mathura, and Agra. Group meditations, discussion, sacred rituals, and lecture will offer opportunities to deepen the spiritual lives of the travelers.
