Fall 2007 Commonwealth Seminar

Press Release
09/20/2007

The Commonwealth Seminar is intended as a training resource for leaders from communities of color, immigrant communities, and individuals working directly with those communities. Our goal is to open the doors of the State House by providing in- depth training about state government, with a particular focus on the Legislature. Participants will learn how the legislature works, how the budget is developed, and the dynamics of state politics generally. The seminar is led by Administration officials, legislators, legislative aides, lobbyists, members of the media, and other experts in the field.

For the first time, we have organized the seminar series on FRIDAY mornings, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The seminar begins on Friday, October 19 and ends on November 16, 2007. The program will only run five weeks to avoid the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition to the five seminars, we expect to organize one networking session in the evening, but that is not yet scheduled.

Applications to the program are available online at our web site. We will admit approximately 30 diverse leaders into the seminar, and we expect selection to be competitive so please be sure to fill out the application thoroughly.

The deadline is less than two weeks away, so be sure to apply soon or circulate the notice in a timely way.
