USINPAC Holds Event For Senator John Edwards In New Hampshire

Press Release
08/02/2007

The US-India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) continued its active involvement in the 2008 presidential election race by hosting a house party for Democratic candidate Senator John Edwards.  Over 200 people attended the event, where Senator Edwards addressed a wide range of issues of concern to the over 2 million Indian Americans across the nation.

Senator Edwards, responded to a question by a USINPAC member concerning the Hindu prayer commencing the Senate on July 12th.  The prayer was disrupted by protesters, and also attacked by some religious groups. "I support complete diversity," said Senator Edwards who indicated he was disappointed with the negative reaction to a Hindu chaplain opening a Senate session.  He talked of the importance of diversity in our nation and government throughout the afternoon.

USINPAC-NH Chair Latha Mangipudi hosted the event at her home and said "Indian Americans are very excited about the upcoming Presidential election.  We are seeing unprecedented energy and involvement.  It is very important that our community continue to be active in crucial primary states such as New Hampshire.  We are certainly going to continue this active participation throughout the primaries and the general election.  As a leading voice for the Indian American Community, USINPAC is grateful that Senator Edwards took so much time to share his views with us."

Senator Edwards talked about several issues at the USINPAC event, including reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil, reforming the healthcare system, and addressing the rising costs of college tuition.

USINPAC has participated in many bipartisan events in New Hampshire over the course of the presidential campaign season including the New Hampshire GOP Presidential Gala, Ready For Change Tour with President Bill and Senator Hillary Clinton, and many more events occurring weekly throughout New Hampshire where the first primary in the nation will take place.

USINPAC offers all the leading presidential candidates forums and house meetings as an important way for them to hear from the Indian American community and share their views.
