The founders of DigitalBrix Nanu Swamy and Naveena Aswadhati began their journey into technology at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. The founders each have   two decades of experience doing product development, business development,  initiating startups  like Tejas Networks, started RoboTech Center in early 2001 as a center of excellence in Game Design, Robotics and Animation. As founders of this RoboTech Center  they had the opportunity to use all the professional tools available for creating games at the center to deliver programs on building games to thousand of participants nationwide.

 

The two have also trained college under graduates, faculty members of  regional colleges to develop the requisite skills in game development technology and aid in the blueprint development for four year degree programs in Graphic arts, Game Design  and Programming.

 

The frustration with the lack of web based tools that are easy enough to excite anyone with a creative bent of mind and interest to create fun, entertaining games provided the necessary stimulus to become founders of DigitalBrix and bring together a talented development team with experience in game industry, simulation technology, web2.0 technologies, e-commerce and database expertise. In time the idea took hold and several leaders in the gaming industry validated their concept. Soon they assembled an expert team of professionals and established DigitalBrix.

Digital Brix is developing a web-based platform to allow game enthusiasts to create and publish their own games.  The technology is simple to use for novices yet powerful enough to support the needs of experienced developers. Our goal is to enable every computer user to create games and entertain friends and family through games. It is like being able to write your story on the internet and tell everyone. DigitalBrix goal is build a vibrant online community by providing simple easy to use technology on the web that allows the transition of 1.4 billion casual game players from consumers to creators and take advantage actively in the growing digital media economy.

 

 

How do you generate revenue? Do users have to pay?

 

The first addressable market will be the channel that loves Do-It-Yourself  hands-on enthusiasts. We are following the well established models in the game industry to generate revenue. Millions of people today are paying subscriptions to various game sites, watch advertisements and enterprises license technology. The timing for DigitalBrix looks good as we can emulate the models that are well established and users are primed for these scenarios. There will be free trial periods and free versions of the technology available.

 

With the popularity of sites like ‘You Tube’ do you think that user generated content is the next big thing? Comment?

 

Self expression has been one of the corner stones of mankind’s evolution. From rock paintings to Modern computer art, it has it’s roots deep within the human psyche. So websites like YouTube, enables users to express themselves, share their thoughts, ideas and likes & dislikes. So rather than user generated content, it is the common man’s outlet for self expression that is underlying current.

 

You also conduct workshops? Can you tell us more about them? Who attends etc?

 

Our technology partners the Museum of Science, Boston, Blended Solutions Technology Institute, The DeCordova Art & Sculpture Park, regional college nationwide will deliver training programs through workshops and multi-week programs. The programs reach hobbyists, DIY enthusiasts, and youth in K-12, college undergraduates, and adults in continuing education programs.

 

I noticed that you have contests called Game Jams on your website. What are these?

 

The GameBrix Game Jam is an online contest starting at our launch time that provides virtual teams anywhere in the world to collaborate, design games with sponsored objects from advertisers and create games that are fun, thought provoking, humorous to entertain audiences worldwide. Prizes include incentives to enter the hall of fame, collaboration privileges with publishers, cash prizes, product incentives and ongoing.
