The IYG or Indian Youth Group of India Society of Worcester successfully celebrated their Showcase India 2007 program on April 14, 2007 with colorful dances and music. It was held at Westborough High School in front of a sold out crowd of more than 700 people.

Thanks to Nikhil Shah, President of IYG, the MC’s for the show Aditya Kota, Priyanka Chilakamarri, Shivi Garg, Divya Aggarwal and Madhu Garg, and to all the members of IYG.

They worked diligently and consistently to make this event the one to remember. The participation and support from the Indian Community was unprecedented. Mr. Shri Garg worked along with the youth group as an advisor and did an excellent job. He acknowledged the dedication of Mrs. Carolyn Passey for her dedication and perseverance to the success of the Youth Group.

The program began with carnatic keertan, slokas and a bhajan by Mounica Donepudi. This was followed by a Krishna prayer. Then it went on to dances performed by children of all ages. Everyone did so well that it is difficult to take one item apart from the others. They dazzled the audience with colorful costumes and fine jewelry. There were all kinds of dances starting from hip hop to traditional Indian folk dances. All the children performed with a lot of charisma and sophistication. Among the dance choreographers were Jasmine Shah, Darshana Jani, Mitali Biswas, Hema Iyengar, Reshma Singh, Meena Jayaraman, Serena Patel, Puja Mehta, Mrinalini Nagarajan, Nikita Salva, Ami Salva and the ‘Telugu Gundas’.

The show included a carnatic vocal performance by Samyukta Mallick and a Thillana on Madurai Meenakshi by Lakshmi Venkat, Meena Sundar, Neela Karthik and Rupali Sharma.

All the dances were excellent. With dance songs from Fanaa, Guru, Chupke Chupke, Rang de Basanti, and Shalaam-E-Ishq, along with Nach Baliye, Melody of Hits, Garbas and Bhangra, the audience enjoyed every minute of the show.

In short, everyone came out of the auditorium with a lot of pride in our youth group.
