Producer: Mukesh Bhatt
Screenplay and direction: Anurag Basu
Music: Pritam
Featuring: Emraan Hashmi, Shiny Ahuja, Kangana Ranaut & Sp. app. Gulshan Grover

Director Anurag Basu's  venture Gangster - A Love Story was apparently inspired by mobster Abu Salem and his girlfriend Monica Bedi's romantic alliance. Produced by Vishesh Films, the story begins with a twist. In a world of crime there is no place for love or so the leader of the gang Gulshan Grover tells his men.  As a warning to all, he adds that to get entangled with a woman will seal his deadly fate. The man who meets this fateful prophecy is none other than the silent gangster Daya ( Shiney Ahuja) who is notorious in the crime world but also has his gentle and romantic side which he displays to Simran ( Kangana Ranaut) . Daya meets Simran by chance when she helps him escape a notorious gang out to kill him by offering a hiding place at her home. He reappears a few weeks later at the bar where she is a dancer and the two are drawn to one another. Simran is aware that he is a don and hopes that one day she will have a life outside of crime. Soon they adopt a child but Daya's world of evil is one in which you can never escape and so they lose their child in an encounter with the cops.  Disenchanted and disillusioned, Simran take to drinking to drown her sorrow and the gangstar returns to his bad ways in Mauritius leaving her in Seoul to fend for herself.

Enter Akash (Emraan Hashmi) a Seoul based singer who professes his love for Simran and promises her a life of hope and dreams once again. Daya finds out and what follows is Simran's anguish and dilemma torn between the two men. Who will she choose ? Do things turn out just the way she imagined ? You need to see the movie to find out.

As for the music , there are some good scores. The movie has plenty of flashbacks and some good acting by all the newcomers.Although this is not a regular  run on the mill story of love lost, it certainly is messy and gloomy and you can feel the burden of watching the film while wishing it would end soon. Although it got some good reviews, it certainly was not Mahesh Bhatt's best venture.
